This photo was taken on a quick trip to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO (USA). My kids and I had spent the night in town and had enough time before heading on to Greeley, for Roller Derby, to make a stop at the park. It's absolutely a beautiful park to walk through.Time
It was mid-morning of March 16, 2019. We had started driving through the park and came to the best place to park. We managed to find a spot and as I was getting my camera equipment out and going, it started snowing - practically blizzard type conditions! People were running to get to their cars and leave. We decided to brave it for a little while since my kids hadn't been there before, and about 15 minutes after we headed into the park, it stopped snowing and turned into an absolutely clear and beautiful morning. I took this same photo when we first went into the park when the weather was crazy - then I took it again on the way out when it was clear and I loved the absolute blue of the sky against the color of the formation.Lighting
I took this image to have a compare and contrast to the first image I took when it was gray and snowy.Equipment
I used my Sony A6000, ISO 250?Shutter 1/250, handheld.Inspiration
I loved the vantage point and being able to get an image with the deep blue sky that showed the dedication plaque but still emphasizing the size of the formation.Editing
Very little post processing on this one - just upped the exposure a touch, but not much so that the sky didn't change. In my camera bag
I'm a hobbyist so I don't have a ton of equipment. I almost always carry my 16-50mm, my 55-210mm, and my prime 12mm in my bag. This day I just had the first two lenses with me since I didn't actually take my bag into the park. I also tend to keep my tripod in my vehicle when I travel. I recently ordered a Platypod to have a more portable tripod!Feedback
Sometimes the weather may throw you a curveball, but it is still worth the time to explore and see what you would like to have images of in an area. The wether can change in an instant and your light may be perfect!
