Behind The Lens

Location

There is this eyrie garden junkyard in my town of Colorado Springs that has several abandoned busses. This one is the classic yellow school bus, with a 70s-80s feel.

Time

3pm Mountain time

Lighting

The windows of the bus are facing west, my goal with lighting was to shade my subjects face so that the harsh light wouldn't blind her nor white wash her. I still aimed to have a few streaks of light delicately placed upon her face.

Equipment

Canon EOS 30D, Zoom Lense

Inspiration

I love abandoned spaces, its always been a fascination since I was young. In High School I found this really unique junkyard garden in my city. A few of my friends and I went to check it out, Julia (my subject) was dressed in a perfect vintage attire. I find decay contrast with beauty very intriguing and inspiring as a visual subject matter.

Editing

I shoot in RAW and had to do a little adjustments in the shadow, lighting and color details so that my photos can look how I imagine them.

In my camera bag

I usually have my Canon EOS 30D, I'm still getting used to cannon I had a sony for years but gave it away and a friend gave me my Canon. I'd personally love to transition back to Sony, but it has been nice getting to use a different model.

Feedback

Be curious, try new things, find people who want to experiment to get fun creative images with you. Even if it doesn't look like a good shot, it can be the angle you choose to capture the image. Think about how you'd see a movie moment and the angles that they use that are sometimes not our first instincts.
