On a shot like this, you will want to either use spot metering or increase your exposure compensation. The very bright sky will fool your meter in your camera into setting a shutter that is too fast, and you will lose the brightness on the subject. You can also use something to get more light on the flower, like a reflector or a fill flash. Unless this is what you were going for, in which case nevermind :)
