I captured the image of this squirrel in my backyard in Gloversville, New York. He was sitting on top of one of the posts that hold up my grapevines. He looked a little cold, but quite a beautiful animal.Time
I took the image at around 10:45 am. It had snowed the night before, and was a bit cloudy.Lighting
The lighting was natural lighting from the sun, although a bit cloudy. I used f4.5, ISO 125, 83mm, and a shutter speed of 1/125. I loved the deep, rich colors. I tried to keep the image from getting to dark or too bright, and lose the rich colors. I have much to learn, but I'm hopefully heading in the right direction.Equipment
I used my old Kodak Easyshare Z990 Max camera. It does a pretty good job, so I still periodically use it. I didn't have the time to set up a tripod, as I was concerned the squirrel would leave before I could do that.Inspiration
I saw the squirrel, and thought it looked very beautiful. I wanted to keep that image for memories, so I made sure to capture it with my camera.Editing
I didn't really have to do much post-processing in the image. I think I really only had to enhance the highlights in the white portions of the fur. I wanted those areas to really stand out.In my camera bag
I normally carry a Nikon D7200 with both a wide angle and a zoom lens in my bag.Feedback
The squirrel appeared out of nowhere. Luckily, I always have the camera stored where I can quickly and easily get to it to take shots. I also always keep fresh batteries in my camera in case I need to quickly and unexpectedly take a quick shot. So.. those are two suggestions I can make to maybe help someone else.
