As a boy, I began to keep a record of things, to write stories and songs. Daddy and Momma fought a lot over his drinking. She got beaten and he went to jail. I began to believe, learning about wars in school and people abusing each other in general, someday as a writer, I could make people think and care about each other, bring an end to their pain. What a damn fool I was as a boy. What a damn fool I am as an old man.
