Location
This photo was taken at my home on our farm near Jeffreys Bay, South Africa. At sunset our one bathroom always had such soft lighting coming through the west facing window and that's why I asked my sister to sit in our bath, which might not be considered the most aesthetic setting for a photo.Time
I saw that late in the afternoon when the sun was beginning to go down, a very soft and warm light came through our bathroom's west facing window, flooding the bathroom with a soft luminosity.Lighting
Well, quite honestly this whole photo is based around the lighting. The bathroom where I shot the photo had one west facing window and at sunset the room was lighted perfectly. A bathroom isn't really the most beautiful place to take photos in but the lighting made up for this. The light colored tiles which lined the walls of the bathroom also very nicely reflected some of the light and filled the room with a soft glow.Equipment
I used our Canon 700D camera. With a prime lens. Because I was using a the prime lens I had to step back quite a while and ended up sitting on my mom's bed in their bedroom and shooting through the bathroom door.Inspiration
My inspiration for this photo is really not very interesting. I was using the bathroom and I just realized the lighting was perfect. I knew I had to take a photo there. I also loved the clothes and towels which were kind of laying and hanging around the bathroom. I thus captured some of them in the foreground and in the background.Editing
I did some basic editing in the free Lightroom application on my smartphone. In my camera bag
I usually just run around with the camera (Canon 700D) around my neck and two extra lenses in the bag. I also have three extra batteries which is a must when going on location. I also love working with a tripod, but I usually only use it when capturing night-time photos or when I plan to take videos.Feedback
Lighting. Lighting. Lighting. Look for lighting, search for luminous spots, chase the sun. And then find yourself a subject which could be anything, a cat, a guitar, a vehicle, whatever... (in my case I grabbed my sister) and then finally just place your subject within your light.
