Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Sea World in Orlando Florida.

Time

I took this photo around lunchtime while waiting for my friends to come back from a rollercoaster. Some people look at their phones when they are bored, I take photos.

Lighting

This was around midday so there was a lot of sunlight but with all the trees around it wasn't too difficult to find the shadow.

Equipment

The equipment I used was my Nikon D5000 and a 55-300mm lens.

Inspiration

I just love animals. I like seeing them do their own thing, just being serene and without worry. When I don't know what to do with my time, I pick up my camera.

Editing

I don't usually like to apply a lot of post-processing to my photos, so in this case, I increased the saturation to make the beautiful colours of the bird pop. I then increased the contrast for the same reason.

In my camera bag

The most important thing is of course my Nikon D5000 with the kit lens. I then pack my 55-300mm lens. Other than that I usually take my grey cards and a glass lens ball for potential creative photos.

Feedback

Like with any animal/wildlife photography you have to be focused and quick on your feet. It's not easy to capture exactly what you want when you can't control the subject. You can't ask an animal to find the light or to pose in any way. Try to be ready and in the moment and don't hesitate to click away until you get that perfect shot.
