Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Brooklyn, New York, overlooking Jamaica Bay during a summer sunset.

Time

I took this photo right as the sun was setting, and it was especially beautiful the way the colors blended together. There were a lot of seagulls swarming the area, and the combination of light and the bird silhouettes made it a magical moment.

Lighting

The day I took this picture, the sky looked like a watercolor painting. The sun reflected beautifully off the water, and the colors were magnificent. The birds were so free as they flew over the water, and I was really proud of the shot that I captured.

Equipment

This photo was shot with a Nikon D3200, lens 100-400mm. I did not use a tripod- I held it really steady, and used the action shot setting so that I could capture the perfect image of the birds flying overhead.

Inspiration

I am a huge fan of sunsets and nature. They bring peace to my mind, and I love to see what Mother Nature can create day in and day out. I wanted to capture a serene moment, and allow the viewer to feel as much peace and tranquility as I did.

Editing

None

In my camera bag

I normally carry my Nikon D3200 camera base, along with 3 lenses: 18-55mm, 55-200mm, and 100-400 mm. I also bring my hood along so I can place it over the lens to prevent glare. And of course my cloth to wipe away any dust or streaks!

Feedback

My advice would be to place yourself in the moment, and only focus on what is right in front of you. Forgot the noise around you, and concentrate on the view you have, how lucky you are to be alive and able to witness this, and shoot multiple photos so you can pick out your favorite one.
