Behind The Lens

Location

I always look for destination over the maps, other photographer, but this photo I took not far from my town, in a suprise location that I never though I will have a composition like this.

Time

Waking up in the dark of the night, is like a horror movie, but something drives me every time to get out and make the trip to the unknow, without beeing awar what light I will have, where my foot will stop and decide that is the place. Love every time getting up early and by default, picture like this are made when the sun start to light the land, the valley. That mornig was all that orange light everywhere.

Lighting

I went with different scenario in mind, but the light in that morning was without cloud, and i always see the light that you have. Not always you have clouds, and mist and anything. But I look for the light, texture, depth, and saw what my composition is, in a second.

Equipment

The camera I used in this picture and still today, is my trusty Nikon d7200 with the 18-35mm 3.5-4.5G lens, a piece of glass that will stay with me forever. Light, sharp and well build.

Inspiration

When the light is in my advantage, I hunt for this kind of composition, of layers of same texture and color. I want to find that depth that I get from the layers that receive different amount of light and shadow cast.

Editing

I use on shot, no a fan of braketing, because I want to see the image in the back of the screen, not wait till I get home. Normal I use ND filters sistem, and Lightroom most of my software I use for the processing. I think this time I desaturate the red and the orange a little, and mute the greens.

In my camera bag

In my LowePro bag it always stay my king, the Nikon d7200, great dinamic range and perfect for my hands to use. An 18-35mm, and 85mm lenses. I use always NiSi filters and they are perfect, no light shifting and the colors are kept the same. A little pricy but worth every penny. For my las 4 years I have a MeFoto aluminium tripod, sturdy and well build, like a tank (just love it)

Feedback

The only advice I want to give is every light is good, but you have to see the light, chasing the direction, where it creates shadows, textures and sometimes you the heavy mist reveal a tree, a mountain. All the light must be chased and with time the eye will know how to read and chase that light.
