Behind The Lens
Location
I belong to the Disabled Photographers Society based in the UK. The society had arranged a day shoot at The Windmill Studios in Cambridgeshire. This gives us the opportunity to photograph a number of models inside and outside in the studios very large gardens and woods that surround the house/studio. Dotted around the grounds were various statues and objects that made for good props. The models used were all professionals and were very skilled at their work. The excellent model in this image is Laura J Draycot who as well as being a great model is also a skilled body paint artist. You can see Laura in a few more images on my gallery.Time
This shot was taken mid afternoon at around 3pm, it had been a nice sunny day with a few odd clouds around.Lighting
Although the day had been mainly sunny, at this location with the statue the light was not so intense due to the surrounding trees. Outside the studio we did not have access to any added light source, so natural lighting was the order of the day. I personally much prefer to use natural lighting, it makes for a better and softer lighting that enhances the image, in my opinion.Equipment
I was using my Nikon D750 camera with the 24-120mm f4 lens. As I said, no extra lighting or filters were used and the image was taken hand held.Inspiration
Laura and the rest of the models on this model day shoot all had a change of clothing. Laura was wearing this particular outfit and jewellery which I felt would make for an excellent contrast between the old stone weathered statue. We took a number of shots in different positions around the statue and I felt this was probably the best of the bunch.Editing
I used Lightroom and Photoshop, starting off with the basics in Lightroom and then performing quite a lot of dodging and burning to hide the surrounding trees and of course improve the light on Laura and her outfit. In my camera bag
At the moment I am still using my trusty Nikon D750 along with the 24-120mm lens. I also have an older Canon EOS600D coupled with the 70-200mm L lens, which I love. I also use the Alta-Pro2 tripod and various ND and Polaroid filters, spare batteries and cleaning items.Feedback
If you are comfortable with working with models, then that is fine. If not, then do not be afraid to ask a model, especially if you are lucky to work with a professional. Ask them to suggest modeling positions they are happy with performing, they no doubt have done it many times and would be happy to work with you.
