Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my living room on my coffee table. I am a self-taught photographer, and this was in the beginning stages of my journey.

Time

Hmm, let me see. I shot this photo in the evening around 7 or 8 p.m. I think while I was shooting this photo, I was watching LOTR on the TV.

Lighting

I wanted this photo to carry a warm and Christmasy feeling. So I used a regular lamp with a warm light bulb. I thought this kind of light made the whole photo feel warm and homey.

Equipment

I used the Nikon D5600 with one of the kit lenses and a Merkury Innovation tripod.

Inspiration

I saw a lot of food photographers were shooting Christmas cookies, and I wanted to try as well. Most of the photos I was seeing were not offering a lot of warm and rich colors. Since I love the warm and moody style, I decided to make this photo reflect the warm and Christmas spirit that I love.

Editing

This photo was taken within a couple of months of me finding love for food photography. So this photo was edited on the free version of Polarr Photo Editor.

In my camera bag

I always have my Nikon D700 camera and my favorite lens, the Sigma 105 mm., f.2.8. I usually carry my Nikon 35 mm., f.1.8 lens with me as well. Sometimes, I will pack my first camera, the Nikon D5600 with me and the kit lenses. It usually depends on what I am shooting.

Feedback

It is true that you don't need to have fancy equipment to get a shot like this. The props in this photo were all things that I have at home. Play around with cloth napkins, move a table around to get the best light, lamps are a great source for light and don't cost near as much as studio lights. Have fun shooting!
