The Statue of Unity - a 597 feet tall statue of one of India's most influential political icons of - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was inaugurated on 31st October 2018. Currently the world’s tallest statue, Statue of Unity is located on a river island facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam in the Narmada district of Gujrat.
Known as "The Iron Man of India" Sardar Patel played a significant role in India's freedom struggle and was free India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.
The Statue of Unity is a much larger replica of a statue of the leader installed at Ahmedabad International Airport. Designed by Indian Sculptor Ram V. Sutar, the statue was built by Larsen & Toubro (L&T), with as many as 3,400 workers and 250 engineers that worked round the clock for 42 months.
