Would you rather camp in the pouring rain or the freezing cold? I'm back from Vancouver Island and I have to say, it was an amazing trip even if we had nearly the most miserable weather possible. To give you an idea, camping in nearly -30 in the Rockies last winter was less miserable!
Southwest BC received a stupid amount of rain on Monday. The water level of Fairy Lake was so high that the tree was completely submerged. My friend Kelsey and I camped right in the thick of it, because we're smart like that. The surfers called us crazy. Looking back, I have to agree with them.
We discovered most of our waterproof clothing was not truly waterproof. After dark, we made a roaring fire to keep us warm. We then spent the next five hours drinking beer, talking about past misadventures, women, videogames and other things that guys talk about.
Eventually we called it for the night and went to bed. Thankfully my sleeping bag was super warm and dry! I woke up several times during the night, to the sound of the howling wind and unrelenting rain pounding my tent. It wasn't looking good for the next day.
I was wrong. We woke up and it was absolutely beautiful outside. It was almost like the weather was apologizing for our troubles the night before. Feeling motivated, we set out for the day and explored the beaches. Eventually we came to this stunning waterfall. It's without a doubt one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
