Behind The Lens

Location

I took it at a naitive zoo near my place in Newcastle. I had recently bought a new lens and was eager to try it out.

Time

It was taken around midday. After enjoying a nice sleep in on the weekend, i decided to try and see what I could capture.

Lighting

Not overly. It was midday so everywhere in the aviary was lite up nicely. Just saw this lovely bird sitting in the right position.

Equipment

It was shot with a canon 60D and a 400mm lens.

Inspiration

I love nature and the peace it brings. I wanted to see what my new lens could do and considering I bought it for wildlife I thought I would go to a place where it was a bit easier to start with. Saw this bird sitting in the right light and wanted to see if i could capture what was right in front of me.

Editing

I did do a little bit. I shoot in raw and used lightroom to bring out the colours a bit more.

In my camera bag

I have my canon and about a variety of 6 lens. However I only tend to use 3 lenses on a regular basis. Makes me think why I'm carrying around so many. I have my wide angle for scenery, my 70-200mm with an extender and my 400mm for wildlife and anything else I can use them for. I have some filters for running water shots. If I think I need my tripod, I'll pack that too.

Feedback

Just try new things. I go out at random different hours to random different spots to try new things. You never know what you are going to get. If you are new to wildlife or have new kit, go to where it's easy to begin with. I tried taking photos of birds where I knew it was guarunteed that I get a photo of one.
