Location
This image was taken outside Gouda in the Western Cape, South Africa. Halfway up the mountain.Time
It was just past 08h in the morning. The sun was just coming over the mountain top and filtered through the mist that engulfed the town. The Towers and propellors stood above the mist and was bathed in the soft sunlightLighting
Due to the mist and the upcoming sun I knew I had to compensate for reflection of light from the mist. I underexposed with a third stop to get detail in the mist.Equipment
It was shot with a Canon EOS 70D and a Canon EF-S 50-250mm Lens on f8.Inspiration
The fact that almost the whole valley against the mountain was covered in mist gave the scene the effect "from above the clouds" I never had such thick mist with sunrise in it at this particular spot before. It was too beautiful to resist and I wanted to share it with the world.Editing
I had to use the levels to bring back a it of detail into the mistIn my camera bag
A Canon EOS 70d with EF-S Lenses 18-55mm, 50-250mm, 10-18mm and an EF 70-300mmFeedback
Mist is tricky to get right the first time. Due to reflection the camera tends to give a high shutterspeed and it can make your mist look grey. Play with the settings to by over and underexposing
