Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken from inside Frace-Brazil House, a cultural center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The church you see is called Nossa Senhora da Candelária, a famous catholic cathedral in the city.Time
It was about 2:00PM and I and my family were wandering in downtown in an overcast day.Lighting
It was a overcast day, so the light wasn't good, the colors weren't vibrant and I was inside a building in shade looking outside in bright light.Equipment
This was shot on a Fujifilm X-E1 with XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS, handheld, no flash.Inspiration
When I saw those peculiar windows, I soon realized that they would in themselves be an excellent subject for a photo. When observing the perspective with the crucifix of the church next to the center with the spears surrounding it, it came to mind that our faith is surrounded and threatened daily by countless merchants and activists from the most diverse ideological currents. This perspective is the perfect metaphor for the imprisonment of faith in modern times.Editing
There was a need to make a cut in the frame, lighten the shadows a little and increase the saturation to bring the colors of the church dome.In my camera bag
I always carry a camera, in addition to my cell phone. Usually in the routine of the day I bring a point & shoot (currently a Canon G7X Mark II), in more specific moments I bring a Canon EOS RP and in special situations I use a Canon EOS 5D Mark III. Lately I have been experimenting with old manual M42 thread lenses.Feedback
The city centers are always places with a lot of visual appeal, either in architecture or in the daily routine. The most important thing is to keep an eye on everything that presents itself and be prepared with the equipment ready, not to miss the decisive moments and not to waste a good perspective.
