Shiraito water fall, one of the best 100 waterfalls in Japan. The name 'Shiraito' means 'white thread'. This fall is not created by only a hilly stream falling from a cliff. A large part of it is created by an exposed layer of water flowing underneath a solidified lava layer. Rain and snow melting water from Mt. Fuji flows between solidified lava layer and an impermeable base layer. At Shiraito site that rock layers expose at a cliff and make water falling from there. Thus it makes hundreds of water threads.
