Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in India on a shore of Ganges during religious festival “ Mela” near Allahabad.

Time

It was midday. January.

Lighting

Condition a pretty bad: very dusty, foggy sky with the Sun. During the day everything is very whitish. Contrast is bad. Faces are dark. Since I am not professional photographer, it is difficult for me to make good setting on a camera. There is nobody there to consult the problem.

Equipment

I use Canon Ti2 with lens Tamron 18-270. Not possible to change the lens due to very dusty condition, so, I cannot use prime lenses. Traveling there is difficult, so, I take wis me minimum possible equipment. Just camera, extra battery and the charger. No tripod. Mostly I am trying take pictures from the distance, that person, I photograph, would be not see me. So I cannot use the flush.

Inspiration

I like to photograph something unusual for me. Different culture, different street life, different costumes, traditions.

Editing

Yes, I use Photoshop in order to change light, color, sharpness, if necessary.

In my camera bag

Camera, extra battery, charger.

Feedback

First - not to be shy taking pictures (this is my biggest problem). Second - never open camera there. If use different lenses, be a are of dust. If making close portraits, always ask for permission and be prepared to be asked for money. Most people there, yang and children, asking to race a picture. Some of them even would not look at the screen of the camera. They are satisfied with the process of posing in front of the camera.
