Behind The Lens
Location
It was taken at one of the trails at Buffalo Bayou Park in Houston, Texas. I noticed several bees flying around and noticed one of the trails was littered with flowers. So we took off down the trail to see if we could find any bees hard at work for a quick picture. I didn’t even have my my camera with me so I had to resort to my iPhone.Time
The wife and I decided decide to see the nearby art exhibit before we started walking the trails. By that time it was already some time in the late afternoon. Sometime around golden hour so it felt just right.Lighting
It was already sometime around golden hour so I was just lucky. I really liked the way it turned out with just a small bit of light coming across the top of the bee. Makes sense considering it’s the star of the photo!Equipment
I only had my phone with me, regardless I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. No tripod or special external lenses. Just an iPhone and very steady hands.Inspiration
I’ve always admired bees and how hard they’re always working.Editing
Not much, really. I only messed around with brightening some of the individual colors and the shadows a bit. I wish I could say more about it but it’s been about two years since I took this picture so I don’t remember a whole lot of the editing process for this specific photo. In my camera bag
I usually carry around my Canon t7i, my reliable 50mm lens, and my 10-18 mm lens. As of this moment I have an iPhone 11 and a few Moment lenses for it. The one’s I typically carry around with my are macro and anamorphic lenses.Feedback
The biggest piece of advice I can offer is to keep an open eye to your environment for any golden opportunities. We have much more going on than we realize happening right under our noses every day. Composition wise? I can’t tell you. You’ll have to discover that one your own. Everyone has their own beautiful and unique style. Like Spider-Man said in Into The Spider-Verse, “Don’t do it like me. Do it like you.”
