Maldon Town on the River Blackwater in Essex. This is where Byrhtnoth the Earldorman of Essex set sail in the 10th century to fight the Vikings in the Battle of Maldon. He surrendered his life for the people of Maldon at the age of 68 in the battle. His statue stands at the very end of the promenade in Maldon.
