Location
I took this photo in my back yard. The black behind it happens to be a compost container.Time
I don't remember when I took this photo but looking at the light it must have been late morning or early afternoon.Lighting
I really wanted to accentuate the ribbed edges of the tulip since it is unique to me and I love it every year when it blooms (and my golden retriever puppy hasn't eaten it yet!)Equipment
I use a D800 Nikon and I believe I used my macro for this shot.Inspiration
I was looking to capture the beauty of the flower to remind me of it the rest of the year.Editing
I increased the contrast. In my camera bag
I usually have my camera and a wide angle and a telephoto to cover most situations I might encounter. If I am in my backyard, I almost always use my Af-S micro Nikkor 105mm 1:2.8gED lens. I try to photograph from different angles and different lighting every time I go out.Feedback
Study your subject from different heights, try backlighting and side lighting and maybe some subtle flash to open up the shadows.
