Location
I took this photo in Samburu National Park in Kenya.Time
This was on an afternoon game drive, just before a huge deluge of rain. The elephants walk to higher ground when there is a lot of rain coming and this big boy was heading away from the river.Lighting
This elephant was just walking into those storm clouds and that afternoon, rainy light just seemed right with the red dust of the elephant.Equipment
This was taken with my Nikon SLR.Inspiration
The colours of the red dust on the elephant and the dark storm clouds in the background just inspired me to take the photo as quickly as I could before he walked away too quickly. He was facing me at one stage but the dark clouds weren’t behind him then. I just took a few as he walked away from us.Editing
This is completely how I took the photo. I rarely edit my photos after taking them.In my camera bag
I have my Nikon Dslr and 2 Nikon lenses, an 18-55 and a 70-200. I also have a Sigma 70-300 lens. I also carry my Sony superzoom.Feedback
Just go with the flow. Capture animals near and far and follow them for as long as possible to see what shots you can get.
