Location
The photo was taken in the lovely woods near Gordon Corner, Eastern Townships QC, Canada.Time
The sun was getting low and we were entering Golden Hour, the warm light now free to shine between tree trunks and lighting up the stream.Lighting
The low position of the sun and the incline of the hill allowed the warm golden hour sunlight to reach this little stream, normally hidden deep in the shadows of the woods.Equipment
I used a Fujifilm X-T2 with a Manfrotto tripod and the Fujinon XF 18-55 with a bunch of stacked ND filters.Inspiration
I was on a stroll through the woods, looking for a neat composition I could capture on that lovely day.Editing
Given the severely limited capability of zoom lenses to create shallow DOF, I obviously needed to get creative with stacked exposures, blending an F22 shot for the blurred, running-water of the stream with a wide open, shot to achieve the shallow depth-of-field. I have mixed feelings about the artificially enhanced flare - it does seem to compliment the composition but it's a cheap trick I'm not proud of.In my camera bag
I tend to pack light, it's usually just my X-T2 with a few lenses (the 18-55, a 35mm f1.4, a 12mm fisheye, sometimes a Meike 28mm pancake lens. Some spare batteries and a Godox flash unit.Feedback
Get off your computer, get off the forums and social media, and go out hiking! you never know what you're going to find, but you sure as heck won't find anything if you just stay home.
