Spirit Island – one more epic place to visit in Jasper National park, Canada. This spot is famous far beyond the borders of Canada as Apple used an image of Spirit Island when they launched 2014 iPad model. An access to the island is extremely limited due to its geography. It's in on a remote shore in a cold Maligne lake surrounded by high peaks and glacier, 14 km from the parking lot. You can go on your own by paddling or get a charter boat. We spent 3 hours paddling a canoe.
It is not actually an island, most of the time this is a peninsula. Only in spring with melting snow this becomes an island. Spirit Island is a sacred place for Stoney Nakoda Indigenous People, who believe mountains are physical representations of their ancestors.
