Behind The Lens

Location

Photo taken at Rio Lagartos Biosphere Reserve which is a Flamingo sanctuary in Yucatan, Mexico.

Time

Was taken around 11:30 AM, before the humidity started setting in.

Lighting

Taken in the middle of the day when the light is the strongest.

Equipment

Nikon D7000, Nikkor 70-300mm, F/4.2 1/180 sitting on a boat on the river.

Inspiration

I found out about the flamingo sanctuary a few months before my scheduled trip to Mexico and decided to go to take some pictures. I was new to photography, so this was an excellent opportunity to practice.

Editing

minimal processing in Light room, decreased temperature of white balance and decreased exposure.

In my camera bag

I have a pretty roomy bag that I can carry one camera and all my lenses. I upgraded my camera to a Nikon D750, added a Tamron 10-24 mm F/3.5-4.5 and a Tamron 70-200 mm F/2.8 to my existing lenses - Nikon 18-55 mm F/3.5-5.6, a Quantaray 28.90 F/3.5-22 , a Nikon 35mm F/1.8 and a Nikon 50 mm F/1.8. I still have my Nikon D7000 and an entry level D3200.

Feedback

Go early before the day gets too hot and humid. We always go in August when its really humid. If you don't really like the humidity, I'd suggest going in April or May.
