Location
I took this from my deck, looking into the garden.Time
The afternoon light on a cloudy day helped to keep the subject in even light. No harsh shadows.Lighting
For bird photography I prefer soft lighting, the golden hours, or slightly overcast days. It helps particularly with Tui as they are very dark and very white. So difficult to bring out colours.Equipment
Hand held as birds land on a series of flax and I need to reposition quickly.camera is Fuji film finepixHS50 exr.Inspiration
Each year Tui visit these flaxes, and I had not been able capture them well until the deck was built.Editing
This image is cropped in and some minor processing to lift the brightness. In my camera bag
I have only my camera spare batteries and cards. This image was taken on the fujifilmfinepix HS50 EXRFeedback
High speed for birds this was 1/4000 sec at fstop4 Getting close is the only way to get clear shots. Or using a long lens this was taken at about 132mm. ISO 3200.
