Going out on the Restigouche River by canoe is always a beautiful experience but this one night proved to ofter more than I could have imagined. On one of the many islands was a Bald Eagle with her three babies. None of us wanted to disturb this natural setting. However, given that I have taken hundreds of shots of eagles, jumping out of the canoe to get closer seamed like the natural thing to do. I did get some great shots that night but knew I must return in camouflage. Armed with my camera gear, a wet pack and an inflatable kayak one afternoon, I set out to find this Island. It had to be timed just right as in this area there are natural tides.
This did seam a little scary given that I had an inflatable boat. Surprising to me, the water was flowing in and out of the bay at the same time. I knew given the right set of conditions, I would be carried out to the bay so time was of the essence. I couldn't find the Island and time was passing. It was almost time to return when I noticed the Mama Bald Eagle catching a fish to take to her babies. I knew I was in the right spot.
