Location
We took this photo in my home studio.Time
This shot was taken in the late morning, early afternoon.Lighting
I am a huge fan of Paul C. Buff and this image was taken before I upgraded from my Alienbees to my Einstein strobes. I used the typical 3 light system, one on the background one for her hair and a snoot for her face. Purposely lighting to the side of the lantern as though the light was coming from the lantern. Knowing I will have to create the lantern light in post.Equipment
I used my Canon 5D Mark III with a 50mm lens hand held (no tripod).Inspiration
I have always been fascinated by themes and conceptual imagery. I have worked on several magazine shoots and each one of them inspired me to try different techniques, posing and lighting. So this particular shoot I asked the model if she minded doing her own hair and make up and it turned out to be so relaxing and fun and got to test out a ton of techniques.Editing
Yes! I opened my images into Adobe Lightroom to cull through each image to find the best ones, make minor adjustments before I bring them into photoshop. I wanted this image to have a late evening feel with a cold blue tone.In my camera bag
My Canon 5D Mark III along with my triple threat prime lenses, Canon 85mm 1.2, Canon 50mm 1.2, Canon 24mm, Canon Speed light 600RT flash. Extra batteries, and memory cards, just in case.Feedback
Take your time on the planning process, develop a vision board of how you want your images to look, the color theme on the backgrounds to flow with wardrobe. Don’t rush yourself and enjoy the process!
