Embracing the Light

Shot at the Natural Park Douro International from a rock with fantastic views over the cliffs of the Douro River in Portugal.

This is one of the few spots in the area where you can contemplate the Douro River facing West.

These trees covered with lichen caught my attention and if you focus on the tree on the right it almost seems to be a figure with its arms open, as if it was hugging and receiving the gift of the sun, hence the name of the photo :)

There was still a bit over 1 hour left before sunset and I had no chance to shoot at that time so I had to try to make the best of the scene and tried going for a startburst look with a low aperture.
