Natural citrine is rare and expensive; it is created when quartz containing traces of aluminum and lithium are exposed to natural radiation in the earth and is usually smokey golden color, but maybe also be a light lemon or greenish yellow. Heat-treated citrine is amethyst that has been heated to 900 - 1100 degrees, changing it to a bright goldenrod color, it is more common and affordable. Both are beautiful energetic stones.
