Location
This photo was taken at Lakes Entrance which is at the entrance to the Gippsland Lakes in Victoria, Australia.Time
This was not long after sunrise. I had been walking and taking photos on the beach since first light and on my way back to the car I decided to take a stroll along the harbour. The pillars from an old jetty caught my eye and this is a crop from another shot.Lighting
The light was pretty gentle but I liked the fact that the rope was highlighted and the shadows on the other side of the post highlighted that.Equipment
This was taken with my old Canon 600D and kit lens if I remember correctly and it was hand held although I would have had a tripod with me.Inspiration
The rope caught my attention at first but what I really wanted was the contrast between the moving water and the calm with its reflections.Editing
This was cropped from a shot that had all the posts in it and converted to black and white in post processing. In my camera bag
I have upgraded since this photo was taken. These day I mostly shoot with Canon EOS-R and my go to lens is a 24-70 f2.8L. That said I never leave home without a 100mm macro and a 100-400 zoom because you never know what you will see. I always have a 100mm filter kit in my bag too with various ND filters because long exposures of coastal scenes are still captivating for me.Feedback
For me, photography is about being in the moment and my emotional response to a scene. I don't take shots just because I have a camera in hand, I need to see something that I have an emotional response to, then try to capture that.
