Before my parents moved to Purcellville, they lived in a cabin on the mountain. It was life much like it had been for 200 years in that clearing, they hauled water and used Kerosene lamps for light. It wasn't until my mother was pregnant (with me) that they purchased the farm where I was born. They felt running water would make life easier with a baby. It undoubtedly did, and I am thankful they made that decision. On Friday nights as a child, they would turn out the lights, light the oil lamps, and spend time reading and talking. I didn't understand it at the time, but now I am grateful whenever I lose power. Lately, I've found myself opening the windows and doing the same. The cabin in the photo is not the one where they lived; I heard that one burned years ago and the path is now overgrown, this one belonged to their neighbor.
