The original lighthouse to erected on Beavertail was made of wood, completed in 1749, and was the third to built in the colonies. The foundation located on the right side is the rebuilt lighthouse completed in 1753. The structure on the left started in 1856. Several structures were added and several technologies were tested at this sight. Today the lighthouse is automated and maintained by the United States Coast Guard.
