Behind The Lens

Location

We are living by a small wetland in Nsw and there is quite a bit of bird activity there ...

Time

This was an early afternoon shot as the birds had settled in the heat, and were quietly watching the scenery around them...

Lighting

Because of the standing pencil willows behind them, and the soft effect of the creek underneath, it had a unique framed look around the egret, showing him off to great advantage for me ...

Equipment

Because birds are a bit tricky to catch, and generally faster than my reflexes, I had set the camera on a quick shot pet exposure with my Nikon P600, with which, my instincts proved correct and he was in flight seconds later ... it was also a boon to catch him yawning, not something that you see very often ... and using the fence post as a tripod was a huge advantage to keep the camera still ...

Inspiration

It was the extremely relaxed stillness and peace in attitude that caught my attention ...

Editing

Except for a little sharpening and a little bit of extra contrast the photo was quite pleasing as it was ...

In my camera bag

I like to catch things as I see them, and only tweak a little to bring the vision to the picture I was looking at and could see ... sometimes I do extra tweaking but I mostly like to catch what I see ...

Feedback

Not hurrying a shot is important, trying a few different angles to get the best shot, and lots of patience to keep trying again ...
