Anticipation and patience rewarded me. Initially these springbok were huddled together their shadows merging. My goal was complete separation of their shadows! It happened! My As time past and trust developed they cautiously moved out onto the plain. Namibia is the driest country in sub-Saharan Africa and both the people and wildlife depend on accessing groundwater. These springboks' source is a succulent, the nara plant which only grows in this one particular area around Walvis Bay. The fruit has now become a commercial commodity for the local tribesmen. Add to the every growing amount of vehicle tourist traffic on the desert dunes and this water lifeline for wildlife is endangered. The roots of the nara plant go down to the water table.
