While photographing a wedding last year I was asked to include photos of everyone. The two children; brother, and sister were standing together and I thought they were so cute and I pointed the camera towards them. At that point, the little girl became shy and tried to hide her face so her brother put his arms around her. I took the opportunity to capture this loving gesture. The photo was taken in the bride’s back yard on the outskirts of Beausejour, Manitoba. The property backs onto the Brokenhead River.Time
The photograph was taken approximately 6:00 p.m.Lighting
I took this photo on a sunny but windy late afternoon, July 14, 2018. I used natural lighting, defused by the surrounding trees.Equipment
My equipment is a Nikon D3000, with an 18-55mm lens, free-hand – no tripod and no flash.Inspiration
While photographing a wedding last year I was asked to include photos of everyone in attendance prior to the taking of vows. The two children; brother, and sister were relatives of the bride. They were standing together and I thought they were so cute and I pointed the camera towards them. It was at that point the little girl attempted to hid her face in her brother's T-shirt. I was inspired to take the photo because of the spontaneous reaction the children exhibited. I didn’t need to posse them; it was a point and shoot moment.Editing
The only ‘post-processing’ was a little cropping using Photo Suite 4.In my camera bag
When going to a photo shoot I normally take two Nikon D3000s, an 18-55mm lens and a zoom, as well as an external flash. Besides the usual accessories, I sometimes take my studio lights for inside shots.Feedback
As for advice to others, I'm am more of a hobbies with a desire to take good photographes; like this shot, it was unexpected and candid. I usually don’t posse children because they never stay there anyway. Candid or unexpected shots are easier. Look around and take advantage of special moments around you. I enjoy photographing Children. I get the most amazing shoots; you never know what they will do. So, when I’m shooting photographs of children I normally start with getting permission from the parents. Shoot them as they are (not how I want them to be), Throw out the pose guide, speak their language, sometimes a little silliness goes a long way, joke around with them and make them feel at ease. Get down on their level, shooting down at them makes for an unflattering portrait. Don’t rush, take your time and don't tire them out. I have discovered, using natural light in a natural environment gives you the most natural portraits). Use wide apertures for maximum effect, and most of all – ENJOY IT
