This is an adult female barred owl. She became a mother a few days back. The owlet is too young to hunt, hence the mama owl is always on alert for food. On this day, a wood duckling somehow got separated from her family and came right into the territory of the owls. The rest is documented in the photograph. The cycle of life in nature can be very cruel at times!
