Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken whilst standing on the roof of my uncles village house. The village is a small area just outside the major population centre of Rawalpindi. I was in Pakistan visiting family and I think this may be my first day in the countryside. Everything I shot there was incredible!

Time

I went to the roof multiple times during the day but as the summer sun began to sent, the light became much better and the contrast between the harvest fields and the construction site grew starker. This is an image I feel very close to because I feel it has a story. My visits to this countryside region, although infrequent, have been extremely peaceful and a great exploration opportunity. As a creative that pays attention to every aspect of the natural world around me, a threat to this peace and serenity really made me feel uncomfortable and drew me to document it

Lighting

At this scale, of course it was a landscape shot with natural lighting. The time of day and golden light really made it pop

Equipment

I didn't have the best gear at the time. This was shot on a Canon 700D with the low cost 75-300mm lens. Some of my favourite travel photos are actually with this camera!

Editing

The original image was quite flat ad lacked some color. My primary editing was dehiring this, adding contrast and colour and drawing focus to the 2 men walking this field

In my camera bag

At that time, I had only the camera and two lenses: the kit and 75-300. From then, I carry a massive 8kg backpack with all the equipment I need! 2 bodies, plenty of lenses, mics, headphones and a gimbal

Feedback

The photos I enjoy most are the ones I had no control over. So look for a scene that speaks to you, wait for a human element to form part of it and then snap away!
