Location
I took this photo from a blind I set up in my back yard. This female Cardinal knows that I am in there and she lands close to the blind often to get a look at me. She also comes around when I am not in the blind. On this day, she landed too close to get a full picture of her so I figured it would be a good chance for a portrait so I focused on her eye and started clicking.Time
I most often shoot in the late afternoon or early morning. This is when the light is at its best and really brings out colors. This picture is a perfect example of late afternoon Sunlight on the subject.Lighting
I always shoot with the Sunlight behind me. This reduces hard shadows, produces a nice catchlight in the eye and an overall well lit photo.Equipment
I shoot with the Canon 80D and the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L mark ii This picture was shot handheld and no flash.Inspiration
I am a wildlife photographer that shoots mostly Birds and I was wanting to get something out of the ordinary.Editing
I use Lightroom for my processing and I shoot RAW. This photo did not require a lot of editing, just some simple processing. In my camera bag
Canon 80D and the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L mark ii, lens wipes, spare battery, etc.Feedback
This photo is a testament to the amazing detail that you can capture when you are close to your subject. In this photo, I was only 5 feet from the Cardinal and my focal length was 400mm. Always plan so the light is behind you.
