Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Atocha Renfe train station , exactly from an street view that there is just above of the area where the bullet trains leave Madrid to different destinations of Spain

Time

The photo was done around noon

Lighting

It was a beautiful day in Madrid . This type of sunny and cloudy day at the same time when it is possible to shoot the best photos . I usually setup the camera in a way that allows me to get high contrasts of lights and shadows in the scene

Equipment

The camera was a Nikon D 850 and the lens a 24-120 mm f4 . I didn’t use tripod or flash

Inspiration

Madrid has an amazing sun light . I were walking through the station that day shooting some test photos because I got the camera the day before. I only had 50 shutter shoots to try it and to decide if I kept the camera or I gave it back to the store. I always love to photoshoot trains and as a photographer those are one of my usual themes. The moment was one of those perfect moments to get one of the Nikon silvered style photos that I love so much

Editing

This photo is almost as the original and I only did some arranges of the light and the contrast to do a different version of the original

In my camera bag

I have several cameras with different lenses. Using Nikon, Canon, Fuji and also two analogic Zeiss Ikon and Voigtalnder that has around 60 years . A wonderful gift of a friend . Normally I travel with a Nikon 7200 that goes with a 18-140mm, the 24-120mm and a 200-500mm. I use to take second body , sometimes a Canon 7D with a 18-135mm and in other travels a Fuji xe1 with a 50mm f1.4 . A very compact but robust Manfrotto tripod comes always with me for long exposures . I also have a Canon 6D that is a marvel for theater, portraits and performance photoshooting . Normally I don’t travel with this one because I keep it for studio photos and for theater collaborations . This camera is able to do amazing photos at very high ISO’s

Feedback

For me photography is pure intuition . I just trust and know the moments that I am living when shooting . I search the scene where I can get the light and position wanted. Things as the day being is a mix of sun and clouds makes perfect chiaroscuros and higher contrasts; where Is my position with the sun is so important . Normally best photos comes in a 90 degrees position of the camera with the sun or so. I usually try to do my photos as sharp as I can and placing the camera aperture on the maximum, I force the speed till I can get the type of high contrasts that this photo shows . This also allows me to give silver tones to the photo, specially with a Nikon.
