I like to capture sunrises and sunsets. The Coast of Maine provides ample opportunities to pursue this desire. The week following Labor Day often offers warm mornings and the clouds that go with them to present splendid sunrises. This was taken on September 5, 2018 at Long Sands Beach in York, Maine USA.

While on a late summer weekend getaway, I took this shot of Long Sands Beach in York, Maine, while on an early morning walk.Time
Walking Long Sands Beach in York, Maine, at sunrise, whether by sidewalk or on the sand itself, I find relaxing and exhilarating at the same time. It opens my creative eye and makes me more aware of photographic opportunities around me. The shutter clicked on September 4, 2017 at 5:58:34Lighting
Light changes quickly at sunrise. Finding the ideal balance between sky light and shore light in camera means shooting many shots over an extended period time. Experience tends to shorten the amount of time required to find that ideal balance.Equipment
This image was shot handheld on a Fujifilm X-T2, XF16-55mm f2.8 at 16mm (24mm full frame equivalent), ISO 1000, and 1/80 second.Inspiration
Early morning stirs my creative juices, particularly on a getaway weekend. The broad sweep of Long Sands Beach in York, Maine, as it angled to the northeast, provided a stage above which the rising sun could act out its role of painting the morning sky. What a show!Editing
Post-processing adjustments were minimal, mainly highlight (down) and shadows (up) to give the foreground subtle lighting. The normal setting of white and black points were done. Exposure was boosted a bit to offset the darkening that a little dehazing introduced into the image. I typically shoot one stop down to keep bright areas under control. In my camera bag
I usually carry two Fujifilm X-T2 bodies with zoom lenses attached to cover the range from wide angle to telephoto--16mm to 140mm (24mm to 200mm full-frame equivalent) to capture sunrise opportunities.Feedback
East Coast beaches in the USA offer great opportunities to capture colorful sunrises. ISO 1000 eliminates the need for tripods, particularly at wide angle settings, by permitting shutter speeds that minimize camera shake that could blur the images. Working quickly at the scene is of the essence and going light facilitates quick adjustments in position and viewing angle.
