I was in Iceland road tripping and happened upon one of many dirt roads. Many of the roads lead to nothing and dead end but sometimes you're surprised with an incredible view or experience. Almost all of Iceland is stunning so rarely are the dirt road adventures not worth it. This experience it was getting late in the day and I was more tired than much else. I wandered down this dirt road hoping to find an informal campsite. Instead, I found a nice view of a glacial valley. I was set up taking long focal length images of the glaciers when I heard a high pitched yelp. I was lucky enough to have observed arctic foxes the previous week and their distinctive call instantly stood out to me. It took a lot of luck and quite a bit of patience but eventually, I was able to observe this beauty from a safe distance. The foxes coloration so closely matched its surroundings the hardest bit of work was actually locating it in the environment. Once I did that it was a matter of not moving much and allowing the fox to go about its usual business. Moments such as this transcend photography for me. When you're able to observe an animal or environment undistributed and completely natural.
