Location
I took this photograph last year on an industrial land reclamation site in Lagos Nigeria. The local government is developing more land from the lagoon and myself and another photogrpaher have access to the land being reclaimed from the water. Given there are limited cultural heritage sites and limited landscapes in a delta region of Nigeria, people and animals / birds are the main points of interest.Time
This image was taken late afternoon around 3-4 pm. These birds are most active at this point feeding up to sustain them through the night. The bird in question is a Green Beeeater. Not sure of the sex of the birdLighting
Just natural light. I never use flash or Photoshop. Just crop the image to suit my particular taste of framing.Equipment
This shot would have been taken with Canon 5D Mark IV and either the 100-400 USM series II F5.or the Canon 300mm F2.8 Series II with series III teleconverter to give me 600mm at F5.6Inspiration
The inspiration is that in a city of 22 million people, which is Lagos Nigeria, the fact that wildlife can still find a niche is amazing given the hustle and bustle of such a large poluted city with all of the overcrowding issues. The fact that this bird is insectivorous is a massive plus as you can image the refuse that is around attracts a lot of flies and other bugs which are its food source. So it is only natural perhaps that this bird would wish to capitalize on this opportunity.Editing
None just natural light and a light crop to frame the bird.In my camera bag
Canon equipment 7D Mark II and 5D Mark IV and a variety of lens to suit the subject matter, Mostly prime lens and also some telephoto lens for both action / candids and wildlife shooting.Feedback
Patience and knowing about wildlife, w,here it lives, how it feeds, breeds etc are key to the sucess of any wildlife photography. After that it is simply fieldcraf to get into position and then the best use of natural lighting to make the most of the subject matter. Quick reflexes are a must also as most of the time you cannot stage a shot you merely have seconds to frame and shoot.
