Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my local suburb. The building in the back ground is an old power house located right on the ocean front. The building and surrounding location is covered in Grafitti. The site is now difficult to access as there was a fatality with a graffitist.

Time

It was a stormy winters day with dark clouds and rain , then late in the afternoon (5PM) the clouds opened on the horizon as the sun was setting.

Lighting

The lighting is natural , the low yet strong sun was creating a vivid contrast with the dark winter clouds and lighting sections up as sun light was able to break through and also back light some sections of cloud.

Equipment

Cannon EOS 60D , Lens EF-S10-22mm @10mm , ISO 250 , 1/320 sec @ F4.

Inspiration

I went to take photos of the site as its is quiet a large and eerie abandoned building with a lot of graffiti, thus a very moody site, plus the day was dark and stormy.

Editing

I combined 3 photos using HDR Software to maintain the dark clouds and bring thru the light sections trying to minimise any blow out. I also introduced a slight amount of grain to work with the mood and graffiti aspect.

In my camera bag

My favourite lens at that time was my wide angle , plus always have your tripod with you.

Feedback

To get the most from interesting sites try and capture them in matching strong weather. Take a series of bracketed photos , then bring them together to reproduce the mood you were feeling and wanting to capture and share with others.
