Location
This photo was taken in Hawley, Texas at my family’s ranch. I am a passionate self-taught photographer that loves to take photos every chance I get. My first camera came from my grandpa after my grandma passed away, and I have loved using her camera ever since I received it three years ago.Time
This was one of my favorite photography sessions with a beautiful and talented cousin of mine. It was a windy and chilly winter day in late October and I was slightly concerned with how bright it was since it was mid-day, but I was so pleased at how they turned out! I didn’t even have a filter on my lens!Lighting
I normally like to have darker photos to have the ability to lighten without white washing the photos from their true colors. I love bold colors in my photos (even though this one is black and white).Equipment
This photo was taken with a Canon T3i Rebel and a Canon 16-35mm EF 1:4L IS USM Red line zoom lens, no lens filter, no tripod, no flash.Inspiration
My cousin was my inspiration for this photo. She is a very talented and passionate barrel racer and asked me to take photos for her before a competition. Of course I said yes! I have always been passionate about horses since I was a child and I loved the opportunity to bring two of my passions together.Editing
I changed this photo from color to black & white in post-processing in order to bring a more dramatic and intimate tone to the photo. I have no specific explanation for my editing process since I am self taught and I edit based on my eye for how I think everything needs to look. My editing process was done through my Apple laptop’s basic editing features. In my camera bag
I alway have my Canon T3i Rebel for every professional photo I’ve taken. My go-to lens is the one that was used with this shot (Canon Red line zoom 16-35mm EF 1:4L IS USM). I will use that lens every chance I get!Feedback
With being a self taught photographer, I have noticed that the “un-posed” or candid shots come out to be the most intimate and beautiful photos! This is one of my favorite candid shots I’ve ever captured. Have patience when it comes to your lighting adjustments and enjoy capturing memories above all!
