-The photo was done during one of the gigs of the DownloadFest of 2017 in Madrid,Spain. An amazing festival that had one of the best group of bands I have seen playing together ever in my life. Linkin Park, Prophets of Rage, Monster Magnet and other very interesting main and second line bands were performing. Prophets of Rage were kind of disappointing compared with the originals RATM but anyway i were happy I say a lot of good gigs.Time
-It was night time around 9pm and I were in a position that matched perfectly with the lights of the stage. I got the most perfect reflections that I could get in this situationLighting
The reflections of the stage spotlights and the smoke behind the guitarist made the lighting of this photo so special, mixing perfectly and enhancing the position and the expression of this member of the band. While the smoke is giving some type of windy effect, the stillness of the guitarist is making a counter-effect with that windy sensationEquipment
I used a Nikon 7200 with a 18-140 mm DX lens. No flash was used. If you carry a Flash diffuser it is worthy to use a flash in this type of photos but if not it is better to avoid the flash.Inspiration
I find always so interesting to photo shoot bands because of the expressions and poses that the members use to do during the concerts. It gives you the possibility of shooting strong, sweet, tough and other many different expressions. In this case I caught the guy doing some type of bad boy tough expressions that totally define the photoEditing
I worked the clarity and the contrast to give more strength to the photo and I also tried to remove that cable that appears between the camera and the guitarist but, not getting a result that I liked, I chose the originalIn my camera bag
When shooting concerts I carry just one camera. Unless I do have a press card it is very difficult to get the organization let me in the festival with the camera. In this case I did not have a press card so I had to trick a bit to the organization to let me in with the camera. This was a second line band and the security of the festival were not strict about photo shooting them but it was almost impossible for me to photo shoot the second version of the band "RATM" , which is named Prophets of Rage, what was the closing main band of the festival with Tom Morello in the guitar and the members of Cypress Hills in the vocals. I remember the security of the festival were intimidating me in a violent way, threatening me with taking the camera. Not nice at all but kind of excitingFeedback
Always carry a press card for the festivals. Your work will be much more easy to do. About the photo, do not use flashes unless you carry a flash diffuser. About the settings just use 1/125 speed, a high ISO and maximum camera opening. If you photo shoot with less than that shutter speed you will start to get nice blur images with very interesting results
