The majority of my work these days is 'beauty' and I'm lucky enough to be able to work with some very beautiful models. 'Prima' here isn't actually a model but a successful actress who I discovered on Facebook and who fortunately agreed to sit for a beauty session in my studio here in Worcester in the West Midlands.Time
This shot looks as though it was taken outside bu tthis was taken in my studio which was specially designed for daylight work. It has 4 large Velux windows in the ceiling (which is 22 ft high) and a 25ft sliding glass wall facing south. Everything is white including the floor so it acts just a like a giant soft box. This is how I manage to get the beautiful high lights on the hair and across the model's shoulders. I can shoot pretty much any time of the day - this image was around midday I would guessLighting
This was shot using daylight onlyusing a mirror to put a highlight to lift the details on the bodice of the dress . See above - 'what time of day'- for a fuller explanation.Equipment
I used a mirrorless (what else?) Sony A77 with a 70-200mm f2.8 Sigma lens set on a tripod.Inspiration
My business is beauty photography so Prima's fabulous looks were the inspiration for this image.Editing
Very simple (and minimal) retouchingon the model's skin was employed with Photoshop and some highlights were accentuated in her eyesIn my camera bag
2 x Sony A77 bodies, 70-200 f2.8 lens and a 16-35mm f2.8 lens. Lightweight tripod, 6 camera batteries, a small on camera flashgun for emergencies and various clips and bunjeesFeedback
2 vital ingredients for this type of image: good light and pretty girl!
