Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Washington, DC at the exorcist steps. Yes! you read that right the exorcist steps and house from the movie. If you’re ever in DC you must visit.

Time

This is one of my favorite images from the shoot. It was taken around 8am in DC on a Sunday morning. Everyone knows that in D.C. if you have anything to do and don’t want to worry about a crowd or traffic you get up early.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect as it was early in the morning and sun was still rising. The steepness of the steps with the walls going up so high it was the perfect tunnel of light. It created a halo effect.

Equipment

My go to camera is my Nikon D4 and my lens of choice was my 50mm 1.4

Inspiration

I was inspired by a photographer on YouTube and Instagram that shoots ballerinas. I also wanted to add something different to my portfolio.

Editing

I did do a lil post processing. I try to shoot for final product, but when I do any post processing I try to keep it to a minimal. I used Adobe Lightroom and luminar.

In my camera bag

My D4 is always at the top of the list lol. But on a serious note my 50mm is always in the bag along with my 70-200 2.8. I recently fallen in love with my sigma art 135mm 1.8 this lens has been my go to for the past few weeks.

Feedback

I would say never go into a shoot blind. I always have some type of inspiration such as IG or a style board on Pinterest. Try looking for new locations and when you do find that location be sure to visit it during different time of the day as the location will look different as the light shifts. I would also recommend trying different angles. As a high sports photographer this is huge with what I do so I incorporate it portraits sessions as well. Focal lengths also play a huge role in your portraits so be sure to pick the right lens for the job. Take as many shots as you need to get it right and take your time. It’s better to get it right while you’re shooting vs getting home and realizing that you have to fixed a major mistake or the shot is out of focus.
