"Metamorphosis" | Sigoldugljufur Canyon, Highlands, Iceland (2017)
The ever evolving sense of being a part of the remotest of places, with the sound of multiple waterfalls engulfing the senses and sending conscience into the abyss of darkness. A place which just two hours ago seemed the epitome of serenity, is now filled with mistery and shadows, and yet it still becomes even more captivating than before.
The cold was intense but the weather forecast was promising, so a decision was made to stay by the unique Sigoldugljufur Canyon, in the Icelandic highlands, waiting for the Northern Lights dance. I have seen no pictures of the Northern Lights dancing above this sacred place, so it is with great pleasure that I present you one of the images made during this memorable night.
Technical: Quite a challenge to edit this photo. Published a previous version but was not happy with the strong blue color cast. Unfortunately any slight changes you make to this type of images can easily create tons of noise and artifacts. Besides that, this image was made with no moonlight, so the canyon was extremely dark. If it weren't for the f2.8 aperture and high ISO, it would have been impossible to create this visual memory of such a special place.
Sony a7R + Laowa 12mm | Aperture: f2.8 | ISO: 3200 | Exposure: 30 seconds | Manual focus | FLM Tripod and Ballhead | Wireless remote shutter
