Superb composition !
I love how the reflection creates symmetry and emphasizes the diagonals of the silhouettes and horizon.
It is a fun and storytelling image, that is simple and effective; exactly what a great photo should be.

Location
I shot this photo in a small town called Ardrossan situated on the west coast of Scotland. I’m a self taught photographer and this was taken really early in my photography journey.Time
It’s one of my favourite photos and has a lot of sentimental value for me. The photo is of my kids and our dog, Amber, at 8pm in March 2018. It was a Sunday evening as we headed home. At the time their mother and I had just separated so we were going to different homes. This marked the end of our very first weekend adventure together, a time of making our precious days as memorable as possible.Lighting
The sun had just set over the Isle of Arran and coloured the sky nicely as we walked along a wall. The water behind the children helped increase the light levels enough for the shot.Equipment
I used my iPhone for this particular shot.Inspiration
Many thing inspire me to take a photo, in this instance it started with a beautiful sunset in front of the nice calm water. I got several shots of that sunset when I turned around and noticed a small window of opportunity where everything and everyone lined up perfectly. I quietly readjusted my position so not to disrupt the perfect composition and natural nature of the shot I had just envisioned. My heart started pounding as I knew at any second one of the kids might look in my direction or stop to look at the view and the shot would be lost forever. My finger hit that button and I knew instantly I’d caught a ‘peach’. I clicked once more just for good measure right before the dog took off to check out a scent she had just picked up giving me a chance to breath again and quickly show the kids what I had captured.Editing
I dropped the kids off and parked by the sea to quickly edit my pictures on the photoshop app on my phone focusing on not over editing and keeping it natural. This picture capped off a perfect weekend in those new and difficult times of adjustment for us all. It gave me assurance that everything would be just fine.In my camera bag
In my camera bag I keep my tripod, Canon 80D with a Canon EFS 17-55mm and a Nifty 50 as well as my GoProFeedback
If I had to give some advice it would be something I learned for myself and wished I’d realised sooner. If you’re photographing a beautiful sunset always make the time to look behind you, that low light can transform an otherwise bland scene in to something spectacular, full of highlights, shadows and contrasts. And don’t forget that “Sometimes the best camera is the one you have with you”
